DELVE INTO YOUR INNER MYSTERY
"If you feel lost, disappointed, hesitant, or weak, return to yourself, to who you are, here and now and when you get there, you will discover yourself, like a lotus flower in full bloom, even in a muddy pond, beautiful and strong."— Masaru Emoto
Ours is not the task of fixing the entire world at once, but of stretching out to mend the part of the world that is within our reach.
As women, we tend to everything - it is in our nature to be helpful, to desire to bring comfort, ease, peace to those around us. And this is not limited to our partnerships or to our role as mothers (if we choose to be mothers), but extends through all facets of our lives. We become caretakers to our siblings, our parents, our friends, our pets, our work… and once that long, exhaustive list of people is well enough, we then tend to ourselves. But it could be days, months, or even years before we decide to stop seeking to help those around us and really take notice of what is happening within.
Throughout the wellness industry, they say: fill your cup first. But we often ignore this message or misunderstand its meaning. It sounds selfish and often goes against our giving natures to tend to ourselves first. But in order to be of service, in order to show up for the people in our lives that we care most about, in order to show up for our businesses, our jobs, our loves and our passions, it is imperative that we care for ourselves and ultimately seek to understand ourselves.
To me, filling your cup means tuning into ourselves. Women are mystery by design. Each one of us is a unique mystery within ourselves. Disempowerment comes when a woman becomes a mystery to herself. But on the flipside, nothing is a mystery to a woman who knows who she is. Within us there lives the most calm, serene lake of wisdom; a most beautiful, powerful pond of precise kindness, compassion and clarity. We must seek to understand that and dare to delve into our inner mystery.
Meditation is the art of unfolding that mystery. Tuning into my daily practice and performing rituals unique to me, that sustain, fuel and uplift me, turn the narrative toward me. I am at the centre of these practices and within them I discover all of the unique parts of me - all of the parts of me that make me whole. Within my practices, I hold space for myself. These sacred moments and this time I set aside for myself, allows me to show up for my children, my family, within my business… within my life as a whole, acceptant of all parts of me, and not depleted from carrying my burdens or those of another.
Life is a mystery – a mystery of beauty, bliss and divinity. You find peace not by rearranging the circumstances of your life, but by realizing who you are at the deepest level.
